Outfits of the year Part 2 – July to December (and some reflections on my personal style this year)

More favourite outfits from each month of the year. See Part 1 (January to June) here

18 July 2009

21 August 2009

27.9.09: Handsewn 1960s dress

18.10.09 red and blue and fake knickerbockers

3.11.09: primary colours and stripes

12.12.09: primary colours

Looking back across my flickr wardrobe remix set, I noticed:

* My love affair with blocky colour continues unabated.

* I seem to have put together a lot of primary colour outfits, and also a lot of red – green – yellow – my favourite combo

* The most common colour I’ve worn is red in all its guises.

* But my favourite is still yellow. I don’t own that many yellow pieces, but whenever I wear them, they make me happy.

* Layering is the easiest way to mix up your wardrobe and, in Scotland, absolutely necessary from September onwards just to keep warm.

* 2009 has been the year of party dresses, worn without much accessorising. I think its because of all the weddings we’ve been to (’tis what happens when you’re 28!), but it’s also taught me that sometimes less is more and I should just let the dress speak for itself

* I hardly seem to have worn earrings at all this year.

* I love dresses over trousers. It was such a ubiquitous thing a few years ago, but now you almost never see it any more, which is a shame.

* I’m still a very timid pattern mixer. I love it on other people, but I just can’t seem to do it myself.

What about you? What were your trends/loves of the year?

You are the queen of bold brights, I tell ya.

I'm still loving the whole rocker chick look, which means I'm wearing a lot more black and gray than usual. I feel like a traitor to the rainbow. 😉

Oh, I love that July dress and your yellow shoes! It seems that my favorite thing to wear this autumn was a skirt or dress with a cardi and a belt.

You have a little yellow Miffy bag, I love it! I have one as well (Miffy wears a fancy dress on mine) actually it's my daughter's, but I like to carry it myself:)
I am a more of a conservative dresser, I love other peoples' colorful outfits and sometimes I compulsively buy something cute and bold, but I rarely wear it. I am more of a grey/green/black/navy sort of person, but I just bought a yellow hat and will try to wear it sometimes 🙂
All the outfits are great, I especially love the March and May ones. I like all your posts. I tried to cut down a bit my charity shop/second hand shop spending this year and your determination really inspired me. Also, don't judge me by the spelling, I am foreign :p
