Two-outfits with a Dave-made skirt!

Dave made this skirt! fashion clothes style outfit thrift thrifted blogger blog creative colour color charity shop quirky individual craft crafty handmade sewn sewing original

Oh yes, this week is going to be all about Daves’ crafty skills: He made this skirt! He whipped this out on Easter Saturday morning. It’s the Marie pattern off Burdastyle, adapted heavily to match my freakishly wide hips/freakishly small waist. Seriously I am a size 38 waist but a 42 hips. This skirt would never have fit me if it was off the peg!

The pattern was supposed to be a novice one, but it really was not that terribly clear. I still don’t understand why the pattern piece for the interfacing in the waistband was so much longer than the pieces for the fabric. We ended just chopping it off anyway. Has anyone made this skirt and can shed some light?

We used some fairly light fabric for this (for some reason the local John Lewis does not actually stock anything heavy at all). I had heard that heavier fabrics work better for this, but it’s worked out great. It would hold the pleats better in a heavier fabric I guess.

I wore it again shortly afterwards to make sure it got maximum exposure. It’s not the easiest thing to mix up, because I hardly have any browny shades, but these jewelly ones work as well, don’t they?

You can really tell the weight I’ve put on in the bottom photo can’t you? It really bothers me, for the first time in forever I feel really bad about it! I think it’s because I am quite stressed out about life in general, and with the cost of the wedding to think about while people are losing their jobs all around us. And this whole general election doesn’t help, whichever party gets in is probably going to end up destroying public services. Usually I can take a bit of weight gain in my stride, but I’m just generally feeling a bit apprehensive about life and it’s getting to me. Rubbish!

But enough of that for now, I didn’t mean for this to get all moany – this post is supposed to be about the amazingness of the skirt Dave made!

Fantastic skirt! I especially love it with the maroon tights.
As for your weight, I can't see what you are talking about. You look rather svelte to me. If anything, maybe the sweater is a little too much to be tucked in. I have a couple chunky sweaters like that. I want to tuck them in, but they do me no justice that way.

What a great skirt! I especially love the top outfit with your tan boots. As for your weight, you probably feel it but it can't really be seen. It's good to watch what we eat though, as we easily get into the habit of eating too much unnecessary food (that's my problem anyway!).

    Once again, fabulous skirt!

Thanks again for the closer look at that skirt! It's super helpful to see what a "real" version looks like (as opposed to the pic @ the Burda site) and the tip with the interfacing. Hopefully I'll have mine constructed soon.

Love the skirt. I think I like the second outfit better, just cause I'm a sucker for colour.

What an awesome skirt! I also have the small waist/wide hips issue that can make shopping for pants and skirts very difficult.

So, I changed the settings for the site feed to full (they were on short, but I don't remember ever changing them to that…). I hope that will solve the Google Reader problem with truncation.

you honestly don't look like you've gained weight at all darling. Takes this slow breath deep and try to focus on the good things, that's the only thing you can do when you're going through stress. Hope you feel better

I really want to see a close-up of the pleatage (not a word, I'm sure) of this skirt. And your fiance made it? High five!
