Oh yes, this week is going to be all about Daves’ crafty skills: He made this skirt! He whipped this out on Easter Saturday morning. It’s the Marie pattern off Burdastyle, adapted heavily to match my freakishly wide hips/freakishly small waist. Seriously I am a size 38 waist but a 42 hips. This skirt would never have fit me if it was off the peg!
The pattern was supposed to be a novice one, but it really was not that terribly clear. I still don’t understand why the pattern piece for the interfacing in the waistband was so much longer than the pieces for the fabric. We ended just chopping it off anyway. Has anyone made this skirt and can shed some light?
We used some fairly light fabric for this (for some reason the local John Lewis does not actually stock anything heavy at all). I had heard that heavier fabrics work better for this, but it’s worked out great. It would hold the pleats better in a heavier fabric I guess.
I wore it again shortly afterwards to make sure it got maximum exposure. It’s not the easiest thing to mix up, because I hardly have any browny shades, but these jewelly ones work as well, don’t they?
You can really tell the weight I’ve put on in the bottom photo can’t you? It really bothers me, for the first time in forever I feel really bad about it! I think it’s because I am quite stressed out about life in general, and with the cost of the wedding to think about while people are losing their jobs all around us. And this whole general election doesn’t help, whichever party gets in is probably going to end up destroying public services. Usually I can take a bit of weight gain in my stride, but I’m just generally feeling a bit apprehensive about life and it’s getting to me. Rubbish!
But enough of that for now, I didn’t mean for this to get all moany – this post is supposed to be about the amazingness of the skirt Dave made!
