An ice cream coloured outfit on Dave’s birthday

2.5.10: ice cream colours fashion clothes style outfit thrift thrifted blogger blog creative colour color charity shop quirky individual white stripes yeloow eggshell neutral

Sunday was Dave’s actual birthday. I wore this new vintage dress. It was ridiculously overpriced (£25 in a charity shop), but I got it anyway, because it has pockets and it’s ice creamy colours which are so lovely for spring and the closest I will ever get to the neutral trend.

dress, bag – charity shop
shoes – river island

These were the things I gave Dave:

The very hungry Caterpillar badges. It’s called Raupe Nimmersatt in German – Caterpillar never full. Which is a bit better than ‘very hungry’ don’t you think?

woodpigeon

We went for Sunday lunch and in the evening we went to see Woodpigeon, who are a Canadian band with an Edinburgh connection. The singer lived in Edinburgh for years before returning to Canada and refiguring the band in its current line up. I actually had no idea about the Edinburgh thing, we discovered them at last year’s Summer Sundae festival in Leicester. They are one of those bands with lots and lots of members, but there were only 5 of them there on the night. I have no idea why they aren’t more famous than they are, they are really very good! I even bought one of their cds, I haven’t bought a physical cd in years.

The support was Laura Gibson, who it turns out I knew the songs of. I’m not sure why, and it’s hard to keep track with all these singer songwriter ladies called Laura. I chatted to her briefly after the show and she said she liked my dress! She was wearing this dress, which was also very cool.

Hope all the Brits have gone/are going out voting today. I’m not allowed, so it’s very important that everyone else does and does the right thing too!

will you be able to vote when you get married? i went and voted, i think it's really important to and not enough young people do really. i like dave's t-shirt, it's great!

I love your post today and the red dress Laura is wearing is gorgeous. Don't forget YOU CAN vote on my poll – The Greens are winning

No, the only way I could vote would be to take British citizenship. But that costs £700 pounds, you have to sit that ridiculous test, swear allegiance to the queen and I would have to give up my German passport because Germany don't allow dual citizenship. Maybe if they changed the voting system I would consider it but given that under FPTP I would end up having to vote tactically rather than the party I actually want to vote for, it's not really even worth thinking about.

I can vote in local, European and Scottish Parliament elections though, so it's not so bad.

I got them in John Lewis (I basically buy everything I ever need except food and clothes from John Lewis), but they have them on amazon as well:

As soon as I saw your new dress i thought of this one from People Tree
    http://www.peopletree.co.uk/products/malibu-stripe-print-dress/?osCsid=023du9v10an40kf680dihqnr96
Even at £25 it's way cheaper than the people tree version

p.s. I'm catching up on blog commenting this week
