A browney orangey one and a greeney reddy one in the etsy and folksy shops. I found a couple of balls of noro silk garden on sale and this is the result. For the non yarn crafty people silk garden is a luxurious handspun handdyed silk mohair mix yarn from Japan. It’s usually about £9 a ball and therefore reserved for those special projects. But every now and then you can find individual balls half price!

And just something I’ve been meaning to mention/moan about for a while: shipping costs on etsy. They are so unreasonable in far too many places! I’ve been looking for a cocktail hat for my wedding, and I’ve actually decided to stop looking on etsy because the shipping to the UK in most US-based shop is extortionate! I get post from the US fairly regurarly and I know how much it costs. It’s not that cheap but it’s not $38 for a $25 hat that weighs hardly anything and folds up small (I can’t find the link now, or I would link to it because it really is ridiculous. I swear I’m not making this up!). I revised my shipping costs a couple of months ago, because I realised I was overcharging slightly, I now charge $4 to the UK and $6 elsewhere because that’s what it costs, so I am slightly touchy about this. And it’s not even just that people are trying to make extra money via shipping, it’s only the non-US shipping that is so expensive. It’s like people don’t want my custom!

Anyway, rant over. Sorry ’bout that!

I live in the US and purchase used books from Amazon. I can buy some for .01, but the seller makes their money on the 3.99 shipping. This is understood and I don't mind especially if I find that book I can't find any other way.

It's too bad that this approach seems to have infiltrated to less corporate sellers.

what I meant was slightly different. I meant when sellers overcharge for international shipping only, so they might charge $3 to ship something to the US, and $20 to Europe, which doesn't at all reflect the actual differences in costs.

I guess people don't have much experience with shipping internationally so they make it really high just in case, but I wish people would weigh and measure their stuff and work out the actual cost!

If they then want to mark up their shipping, then that's fine, but the mark up should be the same across all the areas of the world. Does that make sense?
