20.11.10: yellow, red and white (and failed pincurls and monkey pictures)

unsubtle potatoshopping

failed pincurls

Please excuse the unsubtle potatoshopping. I wore this to a cocktail night we were hosting, so I didn’t get ready til the evening. It gets dark at 3.45 now, so photos in artificial light it was. I did try and make the original photo look acceptable by upping saturation and contrast etc, but it still looked pretty rubbish. So I embraced the artifice and desaturated the background. I quite like it actually, but will admit it looks pretty amateurish. It won’t happen again (hopefully).

For my hair, I tried and failed to do pincurls. I sprayed them with Toni and Guy beach curls spray before pinning. Not such a great idea. The spray gives lots of hold, so when I took out the pins, the curls stayed up, just jutting out slightly in a Sideshow Bob way. When I brushed them down to release them, I ended up with an massive head of frizz. One of the good things about having fine greasy hair is that frizz isn’t really an issue for me, so this was a novel experience. I should have taken a picture, it looked mental. In the end I just ended up brushing for ages, spraying with leave in conditioner, and pinning the top part down. It looked ok, if not very pin curlish.

In other news, we had a little handknit monkey called Cheeky Wee visiting for the weekend (long story). He can party with the best of them!

Love the yellow and red together! I have similar Sideshow Bob results whenever I try to do pin curls. Have you tried foam rollers? You don't have to brush them out as much and for those of us with fine hair, it looks fantastic for about an hour.
I wish I had an awesome monkey to follow me around.

    Love your outfit 🙂

Sounds like the visiting monkey had quite the weekend too 😀

Happy Thursday! (All this talk of holidays has me pining for the weekend)

Love your face on the second photo down from the top. it is soooooooooo funny, and so is your story of doing something special with your hair for the party that comes to no good end. Believe me, we all have been there hehehehe.
Love your yellow dress with strwberries, and how you have paired it with orange. Cute as a button you look. hehehhe

I must try foam rollers! I think pin curls will be ok though as long as I don't use the spray. I've done them once before and they looked ok.

I've been experiencing holiday envy too! I have monday off at least because Tuesday is st. andrew's day.

Such a happy outfit, really cheered me up on such a grey day. I also recieved the parcel of hand knitted goodies today. Thanks, that cheered me up too!

You know why I think you're so amazing? It's dark at 3.45pm, yet you still manage to look fresh, colourful and about to embark on a summer holiday. You make winter layering look cozy, yet lots of fun. CW looks like he had a great weekend:) xo

your dress is so wonderfully colorful! love it! brightens up these dark days, the 3:45pm darkness is one of the most shocking things about living here for me

I feel like a wretched nana compared to your houseguest. Parties all night, and then looking busy for work the next day. What stamina.

Your pretty yellow dress with the strawberry print is FANTASTIC.

I love the print of that dress. And the monkey, he is adorable, especially with a mustache.

This is such a lovely combination of colors. I must try yellow and red together somehow 🙂
