Outfit 11.11.10: bubble skirt and red

11.11.10: bubble skirt and red

This is me wearing the Marie bubble skirt that Dave made me (his first ever garnment!) but pairing it with something different. I’ve worn it a few times recently like the first picture here with a black top, but I can hardy take pictures of the same outfit over and over again. So red polo shirt it was.

In other news, I’m wearing my new necklace I got via an etsy trade with theblueballoon. I lovelovelove it!

It arrived yesterday, after getting stuck in evil customs and coming to me with a £11 charge! Boo trade restrictions! Having grown up as a child of the EU, it’s easy to forget that it used to be like that between all the countries, having to pay customs. And borders! There used to be passport controls everywhere. When I lived in Belize briefly in 2006 and we used to go over to Mexcio and Guatemala and you had to PAY to cross a border! Pay! I was not impressed. I know this is totally unreasonable, but I find border administration quite offensive. That’s probably the worst thing about going to the US, the way the immigration people quiz you for ages and flirt with you excessively and you can’t do anything about it because its their stupid border. And they’re homophobic too – last time when Dave said that he was travelling with his partner, they were really horrible to him, and then they discovered that his partner was a woman they were nice all of a sudden.

Oopsy, that’s gone a bit off tangent!

skirt – dave made
top – charity shop
necklace – theblueballoon

Your Dave's a great tailor. Jon's pretty nifty with a swewing machine and often rescues my projects if they start going wrong.
Loving the print and the shape of that skirt. Boo to customs! Mind you they always collapse in hysterics when they see my awful (blonde) passport photo. xxx

Very cute skirt, I love the print! I got stung with a nasty customs bill once buying from the US – never again!

Your tangent is well taken and, in my experience, quite true. I always have that brief fear when leaving/returning to the US that someone is going to say to me, "Miss, please come with us. We have some additional questions to ask," and then I'll be lost to the world forever (even if only because I went nuts having to answer their boring, boring questions).

So impressed with that first garment skirt. And that necklace- awesome!!

that necklace is the most beautiful thing in the whole entire world, made by one of my most favourite humans on the planet.

This rant about custom and border control had me nodding my head furiously. I once read a great book (I've forgotten the title now) about the pros of loosening borders to the point where anyone could immigrate anywhere with little bureaucratic barriers. It was really enlightening.
