necklace

This is what happens when you take a break but still take outfit pictures, you just get so behind! This is what I wore on Christmas Eve, the ‘big’ Christmas day in Luxembourg/Germany. It was the dressiest I was all holiday, so I battled the snow to take a jacketless picture. There’s snow in my eyelashes!

me:
skirt and jumper – zara
necklace – gift from ages ago
boots – merrell

Dave was more sensible of course:
1952 RAF greatcoat – Camden market, and he added the thingies on the collar for extra authenticity. I really want one of them, they are so super warm (though heavy!) but they stopped making great coats decades ago, and not so many women in the army in the 60s, so women’s ones are hard to find. I found one on ebay once, but it was a size 18.
hat – village hats
shoes – merrell

    That skirt! Amazing!

  • Quintessentiallyquirky 5 January 2011, 5:10 pm

I LOVE the pop of cherry red in your skirt

Dave's coat is amazing. I've noticed UK men have better coats in general, but that is authentic? Even better!

  • Helgavontrollop 5 January 2011, 5:18 pm

Pretty! Thanks for braving the snow for us!
    Love Dave's look,mighty smooth!

Beautiful outfit, beautiful photos, beautiful couple!

  • MrsBossa 5 January 2011, 6:37 pm

Yay to the red skirt – what a gorgeous ruby colour!
There is a very beautiful line of poetry about having snowflakes in your eyelashes…but I can't remember it! Can we just pretend I quoted something highbrow?!!

You look so beautifu in that skirt! And I love the stark contrast of the black and red against the white white of the snow. And that vintage military coast looks FAB! Glad you had a lovely xmas. Sarah xxx

hmm, not sure why that has gone on as the first comment, is it disqusses way of telling me I should have replied individually!

  • oranges_and_apples 5 January 2011, 9:11 pm

oh, all fixed now! It is quite a temperamental sytem, disqus!

  • Tracey 6 January 2011, 6:19 am

Gosh, just look at all that snow!
You both look lovely though … that's the kind of weather that requires lots of cuddles for warmth! šŸ™‚

Utter gorgeousness my dear, the skirt is an absolute beauty and so are you:)))). I love your coat and your fiance's is incredible isn't it? xo

I have a vintage long military coat in my grandma's collection (I think it was her brothers) and it seemed like maybe it would be a medium on a woman. Next time I get those garment bags out I'll measure it. International shipping on it would probably be outrageous though!

This comment is also a way to test this DISQUS thing out again as I'm thinking of using it on my blog. I didn't get an email reply that last time so I'm checking to see if I get one now. If you'd be so kind as to reply. šŸ™‚ Maybe it is because I'm posting as a 'guest', but I click on "subscribe to replies" so we'll see…

  • oranges_and_apples 8 January 2011, 5:15 pm

ooh, how exciting! You're right though, it would probably cost a fortune to ship. I was considering buying a coat off someone once, and the shipping would have been about twice as much as she was selling it for. And those greatcoats are amazingly heavy!

To be honest, I don't think disqus is working right at all, I would maybe hold off. I have yet to get an email about a reply myself and even the emails about the posts on my blog are somewhat erractic. Some appear on the blog, but I never get an email, sometimes the other way round, and for one I just got an email from blogger and nothing from disqus at all. (I have set it so that it's meant to sync with blogger, but it only does that half the time anyway). So yeah, I'm persisting for a while, but there are loads of snags.

Oh my gosh, I'm so behind too. I don't even want to think about it! šŸ™‚

Oh, and the two of you look just darling. I ADORE Dave's coat!

  • Emily, Resplendent Tranquility 10 January 2011, 4:35 pm

You can't go wrong with red & black! Your skirt has such a lovely shape. These photos have such a warm, Christmas-y feel. I really like the photo with the fish sculpture and the one where you photographed your necklace in the snow.

  • oranges_and_apples 28 January 2011, 8:14 am

my coat was just Ā£15 from h&m! I don't actually like it that much but it's
the warmest one I have. One day I will track down a women's greatcoat, and
dave and I can be matchy!

  • oranges_and_apples 28 January 2011, 8:14 am

Thank you! Snow does make an amazing background! I love the picture with the
red berries too picking up the colour from the skirt.

  • oranges_and_apples 28 January 2011, 8:14 am

Thank you! I just googled the phrase, and there's a song too:
    http://www.lyricstime.com/quix-o-tic-snowflakes-in-your-eyelashes-lyrics.html
Its quite gloomy, sounds to me like it is about death!

  • oranges_and_apples 28 January 2011, 8:14 am

Thanks. The snow was actually really lovely, I didn't need to go anywhere so
didn't mind that the roads were a disaster. Snow looks so pretty in the
countryside when it stays for ages! and my parents' house is properly
heated, unlike our flat in Edinburgh!

  • oranges_and_apples 28 January 2011, 8:14 am

Do they? I didn't know that! Maybe its because there's such shit weather
    that coats are more needed?

  • oranges_and_apples 28 January 2011, 8:14 am

we were! cos it was christmas!!!
