These two outfits were taken while I was staying at home with my parents. I hadn’t really planned taking pictures except for Christmas Eve, but I kind of liked how these two outfits turned out even if they weren’t anything paryicularly exciting.

The photos were taken in my room in my parents house. My parents have hardly done anything to it since I left home, so the room is stuck in a 1998 timewarp (I moved to Scotland in 1999). The posters that are up are classic 1996 to 1998 – Portishead, Tricky, Hooverphonic when they were just called Hoover, UNKLE, the Beastie Boys. And Ewan Macgregor and Jarvis Cocker of that time. Oh, nostalgia!

Because I’m sad like that I’ve made a collage of the four album covers that the music posters you can’t see in the picture are based on. Very trip hop tastic! Does anyone remember trip hop? Man, I loved that kind of music! Still do really, those Portishead beats still make my heart melt just a little. It’s time for a revival!

I LOVED trip hop. I even own that Hooverphonic album!

I like both of these outfits. The different shades of blue and the blue/maroon mix suit you very well!

They look cosy, and warm with a scent of home.
    Love the socks.

The trip hop revival must be around the corner, surely. I enjoyed Portishead's most recent album, but it was a bit left field. It took me yrsnyrs to listen to UNKLE – the video with Thom Yorke freaked me out too much.

Love, love, love your brooch. The mix of blues is great too.

What, no Massive Attack?! 😉 I just did a total double-take – I never expect to see my favourite music on other people's blogs!

I adore(d) trip-hop, and Portishead rescued me from chart music hell in 1995… Went to see them at the ATP festival a couple of years ago, and it was fantastic. I remember buying that Hoover album, too, and I was listening to Psyence Fiction again over Christmas. Spooky…

In short: I am well up for a trip-hop revival.

    That fox broach is fabulous!

Ack, you're adorable. Oh, and that Beastie Boys album got me through many a good year.

    That fox brooch is AMAZING!

My old bedroom looks nothing like when I still lived there. My parents tried to nudge my stuff out while I was in college and as soon as I graduated they told me it had to all be out ASAP! I don't blame them for not wanting an unused room in their house, but I do think it would be pretty cool to be able to almost step into my teens again.

Thank you! I'm surprised my parents haven't done anything to it, I guess
they've not really got into DIY/decorating until my dad retired last year.
I'm sure they'll get round to this room soon.

I saw them live when they toured this, it was amazing! Intergalactic is on
    our wedding playlist!

  • oranges_and_apples 28 January 2011, 8:14 am

Thank you! It's probably the brooch i wear the most often out of all my
brooches, and I have a lot!

Oh, I love Massive Attack! I basically loved anything trip hop, some quite
random stuff too. I used to listen to Ruby's salt pepper remixed (the non
remixed version was pants though), red snapper, alpha. Aahh!

The reason there's no MA poster is because all of the posters were acquired
for free – the record shop was donating the ones they didn't use. Which is
why the Tricky one is a single off the crap second album and not maxinquaye.

I saw Portishead a couple of times when they were touring the second album,
would love to have seen them recently!
