Outfit 5.2.11; blue and grey and a wee bit of red (plus 7 things)

5.2.11: blue and grey

my other coat

This was taken a few weeks ago, I had kept it behind because of the Capsule Wardrobe Challange. I wore this to go to a Michelin starred restaurant, the Kitchin (people that watch bbc 1 cheffy food shows, that’s Tom Kitchin’s one. It was in the final of the last professional masterchef)! It was DELICIOUS! We had been once before so we really wanted to show Dave’s mum, who was up for the weekend. I still dream of the pistachio chocolate souffle!

outfit stats: * dress – people tree * zip bag and scarf – gift * belt – charity shop *shoes – clarks

I’m not doing Friend Friday again, because the theme is beauty products, and I’m not a beauty gilr and I really have nothing intesting to say on that. Instead, I’m doing the Stylish Blogger award/ meme I got tagged with by Fabienne at the House in the Clouds. It’s one of those tell us 7 things about yourself ones. I’ve done a few of these, and the most comprehensive one is probably this one. But today its all light and fluffy:

1. This is for Amber who asked this question: The reason I first moved from Luxembourg to Scotland 10 years ago was to study architecture. I went to a European school, where I has some classes in English (most in German) and I was a total Britiophile. There was no university in Luxembourg at the time, so I had to leave, and I decided I wanted to go to the UK. There’s only few universities that offer architecture in this country and Edinburgh was the best one, so that’s where I went. It was also the only university I visited before deciding.

2. I then changed courses to human geography, because I was not cut out for architecture. Which was absolutely the right thing to do!

3. I go through phases of overusing certain words. At the moment its kittens. I call the cats (aged 2 and 8) kittens, I call Dave kitten, I call people kitten on twitter. I’m beginning to annoy even myself.

4. The trait I most deplore in others (spot the guardian Saturday magazine reference!) is bullshitting. Specifically, people who bullshit when they don’t have to, who will pretend to be experts in stuff they know nothing whatsoever about and who will insist they are right even when they have been proven wrong. This is surprisingly common and usually people get away with it for way longer than they should, because they are so confident that a lot of people just assume they know what they’re talking about. Not me though, which brings me to:

5. The trait I most deplore in myself is arguing way beyond the point of reasonableness. When I know I’m right, I will not let it go. I like to think that the difference between bullshit people and me is that at least I only do it when I know I’m right. I’m not afraid to say if I know nothing about something or have made a mistake. But when I am sure, boy will you know it. Put me next to one of such bullshitters and I will challenge them constantly. I am told this is quite funny to watch.

6. I love Adam and Joe. And they’re back on 6music, hurrah!

7. I like cheap types of flowers best. Give me daffodils, tulips or chrysanthemums, over roses any day.

The rules of the award are to tag 7 bloggers, but I’m gonna cop out and leave this to people to take if they want. I am still trying to cut down my online time for burnout related reasons!

Happy Friday kittens!

I love that you said you like cheap flowers best!! Me too!!! Gimme chrysanthemums any day!!! And daffs – now that they're in season :)

    Happy Friday! xx

The red trench popped over the delicious grey dress and cobalt accessories – once again Franca, you've made me smile and feel lucky to be alive. I adore your style kitten :))). I hate bullshitters too and I'm trying to train myself not to be so argumentative because it is soooo hard to let it go. xo

It's so nice to learn more about you! I do the same thing with word-overusing, for a while it has been to say "Absolut!" whenever confirming something (like Lisabeth in Madita, or maybe imported from English, saying "Absolutely!" is much more natural)… and I hate bullshitting too though after two years at a so-called elite uni where everyone was constantly doing this I've become quite the expert at fake-it-till-you-make-it, which is only one degree removed.

I love how all of your blues match! I have blues but none of them quite match so I can't make it look as unified as you did in this wonderful outfit :)

My favorite flowers you can't even get at a florist… and trust me, my poor husband has tried. They are tiny wood violets that we had everywhere all over our land in Minnesota. Tiny dainty white with deep purple veins coming from the interior of the violet.

Hope you have a lovely weekend :)

I love your outfit and that coat of yours puts a smile on my face every time I see it. Insta sunshine :) So pretty and absolutely stunning with the blue.

I'd rather like to be present for one of your bullshitter put right-ings. I've been known to do something somewhat similar putting people who have that "high and mighty" vibe about them in their place. There is nothing quite like being infamous for holding your own :D

Hope things ease up for you soon. Darn stress, it should be illegal! ;)

Lovely, lovely outfit! I just adore that People Tree dress on you.

And I'm totally with you on bullshitters. It goes hand-in-hand with hypocrisy for me, and it drives me bananas.

  • Rebecca 4 March 2011, 3:49 pm

That whole outfit is really cute, but I especially like the coat!

  • La Historiadora de Moda 4 March 2011, 6:13 pm

Oh, kitten! My overused phrase is probably to say that "everything is all sunshine and puppies." I love the blue here!

  • Penny Dreadful 4 March 2011, 6:48 pm

I love pretty much ALL flowers, I'm just as happy with a bunch of daffs as a huge bouquet. I adore that bright blue you are wearing, the belt in particular brings it all together x

I love that you're currently going through a phase of calling everyone and everything "kitten" – that amuses the heck out of me for some reason.

Count me in as a fan of cheap flowers as well – dahlias, daffodils and road-side sweet peas are some of my absolute favorites. I am also a fan of this outfit. I have a similar grey dress and I'm thinking I might just need to pair it with blue – thank you for the inspiration!

    Gracey

All of the vivid blue with the light grey dress over it is just beautiful…sophisticated even.

  • oranges_and_apples 6 March 2011, 5:53 pm

Bullshitting is a definite skill (which i wish i was better at) and i don't
mind it so much if people do it when they have to to get out of a tight
spot, but it really annoys me when people do it all the time for no reason!

  • oranges_and_apples 6 March 2011, 5:54 pm

    those sound lovely!

  • oranges_and_apples 6 March 2011, 5:55 pm

That's a bit like motherhood and apple pie. Which I never knew what it meant
    til like a year ago!

  • Leia 7 March 2011, 10:11 am

I love the color combination Franca!

  • Wholesale Flowers 25 June 2011, 12:31 pm

Daffodils are great, too, but they're seasonal so not always available. Carnations are another type of flower that are inexpensive and maintain a relatively long vase life when compared to other flowers.
