Today I am travelling down to York for my friend’s birthday weekend, and so I thought it would make sense to post some pictures from another train-based trip: Utrecht. We went there when we were in Amsterdam a wee while back. There are so many towns within such close distance of Amsterdam! We chose Utrecht because Dave’s colleague (ex-colleague now I guess) had gone to university there, because the local contemporary art museum includes (1) a Miffy wing and (2) a couple of De Stijl houses. It wasn’t a 100% successful trip as we got there pretty late having gone on the Sunday after daylight savings and completely forgetting about the hourse going forward, and then it turning out that the Rietveld Schroeder house (the bigger of the two De Stijl ones) could be visited by appointment only and all the appointments for that day had gone.
But its a lovely town with pretty canals and a massive Cathedral with a bit missing in the middle. And the Miffy museum was brill! I have a soft spot for Miffy, and we bought some postcards that we have hung. Such kiddies! My favourite postcard was Miffy’s granny knitting, but in the postcard its a yellow background and an orange dress. I might scan it in at some point to show you.
Have a good long weekend everyone!
