vintage dress, and pattern mixing

This is from a couple of weekends ago, worn to go for a lovely girly afternoon tea birthday. The vintage dress is new from the ever trusty Sally Army at the bottom of Leith Walk. I will not be going back for a while because I am seriously running out of space in my wardrobe for dresses.

I was adventurous and paired it with a vintage jacket which I scored for something like £6 years ago, but haven’t worn much, oddly. I love the retro pattern and its reversible! Though the inside is a very unevenly faded brown, so not sure I’ll ever wear it the other way round. It’s my main jacket at the moment, so its time has finally come.

While taking these pictures, I realised how hard it is to take pictures in really bright sunshine! That’s me squinting away in pictures 2 and 4! It’s so much easier to get the lighting right when its overcast, as it usually is round these parts of the world at this time of year. Not that I am complaining about the sunshine!

The brooch by the way was only worn once and has now made its merry way to Australia and Sarah at Misfits Vintage!

This orphaned jacket is an excellent pattern and color mix with the dress. Totally agree about overcast being the best light for photos.

  • Mojca_stefanic 20 April 2011, 7:52 am

    Totally love the jacket!

Both the dress and the cardigan look great, and they also go together well! I admire your color and pattern mixing boldness, I have yet to get there 🙂

Quite possibly the best vintage day dress I've seen in a long time. Maybe ever. I adore it paired with the jacket.

  • Penny Dreadful 20 April 2011, 9:29 pm

Lovely print on that dress, but I know what you mean. I have so run out of space that I don't even have room to hang my skirts up xx

Such a darling dress! Love that the jacket is reversible, too. I used to have a similar one except the awkwardly faded inside was blue. 😉

  • ChristineM 21 April 2011, 3:24 am

I love this look! It is so unique. Both are great pieces on their own and together – fantastic.

Der Sweater ist ja wunderschön! Echt ganz tolles Muster! Bin verliebt!

That dress is brilliant! I think that on most people, the pattern might be overwhelming but even in these photos, I can tell that you have the personality to pull it off. Great look!

The dress is lovely, but that jacket is just INSANELY good. Great pairing as well.
