Polka dot skirt four ways – styled by twitter friends

by Franca on June 20, 2011

When I first thrifted the new polka dot skirt I showed last week, I put a picture on my twitter and asked people how they would style it – because while I am fearless with colour, patterns always cause me a wee bit of a challenge. So anyway, four lovely twitter friends responded, and I decided to put all the suggestions into action. Here’s the results!

I think you should wear it with white t bar heels, a white pussy bow blouse and a black blazer!

Admittedly, this outfit isn’t anything like that, since I don’t own any of the items she mentioned, but I decided to take from it a monochrome colour scheme.

monochrome polkadots
*top from h&m * brooch from cupofteaandcake * shoes from clarks*

I’ve been seeing bright yellow with dots and it makes my heart sing! How about a citron top, some black tights

I decided to add blue to the mix too!

polkadots and yellow and blue
*top – zara * necklace – gift * bag- gift * shoes – keds*

Misszuman said:

pair it with red!!

Here it is with lots of red and some added polka dot sockage!

* top – charity shop * socks – h&m * shoes – clarks *

With obnoxiously loud/bright colours, of course! (That’s how I style about 95% of everything I wear… Ha!)

Of course! I went for primary colours.

polka dots and primary colours
* top – vero moda * necklace – primark * satchel – cambridge satchel co * shoes – converse *

Haven’t they all done well? Love them all! Which one is your fave? Also, what do people think of this feature? I could make it semi-regular if people like it and are willing to make suggestions?

If you owned some of the prescribed clothes, I would prefer the first idea, but from the pictures it is Misszuman's <3

If you owned some of the suggested clothes, I would prefer the first idea by far. But from the pictures the one with red from Misszuman is my favourite!

Hurra für die Tigerente! Alle drei Outfits sehen klasse aus – das mit den Pünktchen-Socken ist besonders lustig, dabei gleichzeitig besonders elegant wegen der Farbkombination! Bravo.

I love them all but the last one is brilliant - all those colours!  The blue tights are an amazing shade.

I adore that skirt and all the ways you've worn it! I think my favorite is the citron/blue pairing.

First off, the idea is BRILLIANT as well as the charm of the skirt. And the wearer I might add.

My favorite two are the first (all black and white, loving the white shoes with black tights look- I think its my fave) and the red paired with the polka dots. That said I favor those combos in my wardrobe, so maybe I am being biased. But I do love the citron yellow paired with the always optimistic polka dots, and since you followed my advice on that I should give it a little shout out- HELLO CITRON!

I think this feature is great, very inspiring to see how people style so differently the same article of clothing. GREAT  post, Franca!

I love this feature!  I honestly can't pick just one favorite though because you look fantastic in each outfit. What a fabulous skirt!

Such a lovely idea to create different outfits from the suggestions Franca! Love what you did with mine – I have to say the skirt works beautifully with the 'monochrome' theme!

I love this feature! I don't have Twitter, though, so couldn't make suggestions…but if others are willing to make suggestions, I enjoy looking at the results!

Oh, I like number 4.  I've been gearing up for a month of primary colors in July…so that's how my brain has been thinking lately.

I love this idea. Do you mind if I steal it? A good thing to do with the closet orphans.
