My cherilicious wedding reception dress and some bits and bobs to style it

cherry dress

So… I finally bought the dress for our wedding reception. I don’t know if I talked about this much before, I decided a while ago that since I hadn’t come accross anything suitable vintage, I would get a Vivien of Holloway dress. But I was changing my mind every 5 minutes about what kind, plus their sizing is pretty erratic, so we went to the shop when we were down in London for Pulp. It still took me ages and ages to decide, and I very nearly bought two dresses (the other one was red gingham). But that would have just delayed the decision longer, so in the end I made myself choose.

Do you like it? I do! It’s non-weddingy enough to wear again afterwards, but it’s still ‘special occassion’. And it’s sort of white and will look fab with my red crinoline!

So now I’ve finally got my dress I can start looking for things to wear with it! Whee!

cherry hat

I was originally going to get a hat by etsy seller Mi Amore Hats. I love her stuff and she actually has one with cherries on, see? But then I’m already wearing a hat at the actual wedding and I’m having my hair put up by a hairdresser for the recption, so it seems a waste to cover it up.

hair pin

hairpins

So I decided to go with hairpins instead. The two ones above I really like. The flowery ones are probably more sensible, but I do really like the Kanzashi flower ones, though they won’t go with the dress very well, will they?

new shoes

cherry shoes

Oh, and shoes. I actually have my shoes already (the top ones from Clarks, which I’ve had for years and love), but the bottom Vivienne Westwood/Melissa ones would be ace too, wouldn’t they? Thankfully I can’t be tempted too much because (1) They are too high for me and (2) Dave thinks they are massively horrible.

Cherries

And finally, just some cute but not wedding appropriate cherry themed bits and bobs I found while searching: a Tattoo necklace; a Anna Dello Russo style fascinator; a plastic brooch and a glitter fascinator.

If anyone has any ideas/suggestions/recommendations on how I should style the dress, please jump in and tell me!

ooh what a fabulous dress! You will look gorgeous in it. I actually love the VW jelly shoes, it's quite funny about your hubby-to-be's views on them! I think those poppy style hairpins would look great with it xxx

Love, love, love your dress!!! You'll look fabulous, no doubt! The  hairpins are lovely as well, quite tricky to decide. Check these earrings: http://www.etsy.com/listing/60291985/glass-cherry-earrings-on-antique-copper, you might like them as well!

I would wear it with the Mi amore fascinator and V. Westwood melissas. That would be wonderful

oh its gorgeous! One of my friends wore a similar dress to a wedding last year and she looked so glamourous, you're going to look amazing. She wore hers with a hair pin as well, in fact she makes them to match her things, you might like them too 🙂 http://www.etsy.com/shop/SugarandHatter I wore the red ones for a wedding recently and they looked really cute

Very fun and cute reception dress!

It's a beautiful dress! Love it! I can imagine it with a red crinoline. Pins in your hair sounds like a good idea (so everyone can see your updo). I kinda like the VW pumps, but I suppose hubby-to-be should have a say – it's his day too 🙂

Love love love the dress!  So cute and fun- not at all stuffy, which is kind of unusual, I've found.  🙂  Can't wait to see you in it!

Fabulous! I think the first hair flowers would go best, and Dave is WRONG, the cherry Melissas would be great (though the ones you already have will be perfect too). Do you mind if I ask what kind of belt you are wearing? Just if you decide to go for a stretchy red one like in the picture it might be a nice idea to get another flower pin to put over the buckle at the front, as sometimes those metal buckles can look a little cheap but the flower would work in really nicely with your hair xx

I love the dress you picked. It may not be vintage but it has a great vintage feel to it.

  • Terri 8 July 2011, 2:28 am

Oh, those Vivien Westwoods would be PERFECT with the new dress.  I can't wait to see you in it with the red crinoline peaking out!

  • oranges_and_apples 8 July 2011, 6:29 am

No belt! I really don't like those voh belts at all and there's no need, the
    waist is so defined anyway

Jeez the cherry shoes are incredible and would be gorgeous with that dress – very elegant:)).  Your dress is so beautiful and I would have to wear it on every sunny day as it would make me feel so happy!!  I must be behind the times or something but what is a wedding reception dress?  Do brides change out of their gowns now?  Does it replace the "going away" outfit?  I must have answers to these questions coz I love weddings:)) xoxo

I think some people do change during the day but for me it is that I am
getting married on the Friday with close family only but the party with
everyone is on the saturday. This is the Saturday dress!

These are amazing! I love cherry prints. These hair adornments are fantastic, especially that Mi Amour hat.
