One shirt 5 ways – styled by bloggy friends

A while ago, The lovely Bella Q sent me this shirt dress as part of a packet of goodies for my birthday. I didn’t really know what do do with it, as it’s not my usual style. So I asked my twitter friends to help me out!

Here’s what they came up with:

Melissa Palazzolo said:

Hm…I’d go with layering it under a dress, or over a dress and tying it at the waist, or with a skirt, untucked and belted.

This is a mix of all her suggestions, over a dress, but open and with a belt. If that shirt was just 5 cms longer, it would have been great! as it was, I kept having to pull it down, so I ditched the belt fairly quickly!

* dress- people tree * bag, belt – charity shop * sandals – camper *

I’d tuck it into a pleated skirt and wear with heels and knee socks…

No pleated skirt, and no proper heels, but getting into the spirit!

* skirt – people tree 8 top under – aa, dyed red by me * shoes – schuh * bag – tula *

I like the belted idea – maybe over a black shirt and pencil skirt?

and Veronica Darling said:

I agree with Kim, if it’s cropped, I’d go pencil skirt, but from your wardrobe maybe a bright tunic?

Like I said avove, the belted thing wasn’t a goer, but the pencil skirt was! It looks almost like a skirt suit! No colourful tunice I’m afraid, I’m not really a tunic girl!

* skirt – charity shop * top underneath – aa, I dyed it * shoes – office *

I’d pair them with a pair of solid color fitted ankle pants, think Audrey Hepburn.

I have no ankle length trousers, so i rolled up some jeans, and added a hairband as an approximation of a tiara. Admittedly, the result is more comfy person on a hot day than audrey hepburn, but stuill, it’s cute!

* jeans – vero moda, dyed grey (now fading) by me * top under – h&m or siimial * headband – accessorize * shoes – el naturalista

skinny trousers, brown leather bomber jacket.

This is Dave’s leather jacket, which he rarely wears, it’s small on him but big on me. I was aiming for a sort of ‘This is England’ vibe here, but according to Dave I look like an 80s rock star here. I think he was thinking of Michael Jackson!

* jacket – vintage shop closing down sale * jeans – charity shops * shoes – office *

How would you style it? I’ll do another challenge when I get back from honeymoon in late September, and I’ll make sure to post it on my Twitter, Google+ and Facebook so everyone gets a chance to make suggestions!

What a cute idea! I'm super impressed that you tried all of the suggestions!!! 🙂 I really do think it looks great over the dress, especially with the dress having longer sleeves. I think if the belt was a little tighter and higher up on your ribcage, it might alleviate some of the irritation with the shirt being shorter. You look adorable in all of these outfits, though! 🙂

Oh, I forgot about this! What a fabulous idea!
I particularly love the shirt tied over the longer-sleeved top – it's much quirkier than I imagined. Shame about the belt thing though – I love me a belted style. I suppose you could have belted the dress and worn the shirt more as a jacket, but perhaps that wouldn't have been the same.
Thanks for featuring me, blogging buddy xxx

Oh my gosh I love all of these!! I think my fav is the Audrey Hepburn inspired one.

I can see the This Is England comparison! And to be fair, 80s is 80s is 80s, so maybe Dave was half-seeing it too. You look good!

They all look pretty kicky, actually. Versatile piece you got there!

All creative and lovely 🙂 I like the second look best – especially with that stunning skirt – the bright red hem gives the outfit a kick.

Wow – this is such a cool feature you did! I love all the input from your twitter friends. I can't pick a favorite!

Hey you look lovely in that shirt! I agree it's not normally your style, but I could see you rock it with your signature stash of color. My fave way you styled it is ala Audrey Hepburn, only I would have added tall pumps with those rolled up jeans ( I love that look) and maybe added a round pair of sunglasses. xo. Bella Q

I like look #2 the best.  I like this post…as I have any number of problematic items in my wardrobe.
