Hello all, my name is Lizzy and I write a little blog called ScientistChic. I’m so excited to be included in Franca’s series of guest postswhile she and her new husband are off on honeymoon! I hope they are having a wonderful time, forgetting about the world and just enjoying each other’s company.
Baking has always played a really important role in my life. Some of my earliest memories involve being taught how to make pastry at my Granny’s kitchen table, or learning the art of apple crumble from my Mum. So for this post I thought I would turn my eye to the main culinary event of any wedding: the cake.
These days pretty much anything goes where wedding cakes are concerned; these examples from the Hummingbird Bakery demonstrate that the sky is really the limit when it comes to cake design! I like the orange, purple and green stripes myself.
Anyway, I need very little encouragement to get my cake baking kit out, and even less encouragement to share recipes! So after a blissful afternoon in the company of my mixer and a lot of flour, I bring you my super simple festive cake recipe in honour of Franca and her big day. I started with a basic 4oz sponge recipe, gave it a citrus kick by adding orange zest, and finished it off with a white chocolate frosting.
