A white dress in Sienna (and no make up)

sienna duomo

I thought I’d give this outfit it’s own post, since it was one of the two dresses I sacrificed suitcase space for. I’m also wearing the cat brooch which was the only ‘thing’ we brought back from holiday. It is by French designer Lea Stein, same as my black and white fox brooch. We got it in this weird little antiques shop in Rome where you had to ring the bell to get in and they had no proper till and had forgotten their tillbox (I don’t think they kept regular opening hours), so they had to run to the book shop next door and get change for me.

Also note the make up less last photo! I mentioned in the other post that I couldn’t wear any make up because I’d tanned and because I was getting all sweaty under my sunglasses. I didn’t feel self conscious about it in the slightest, just silly for lugging my make up bag all the way over there. So anyway, after Dave took it he went ‘You’re probably not gonna want to use this’, and its true that when I first looked at it, I thought ‘no way’ but now I’ve got used to it, I am including it, dishevelled and with rings under my eyes as I look.

Because on reflection, I quite like it. That’s actually what I look like and it’s cool. I am by no means anti make up, and will continue to use it every day, but I don’t like the idea that you have to wear it to look acceptable. I think it’s good practice to not wear it for a bit every now and then actually, and maybe take a picture to get used to the idea. So I’ve got in touch with Katy of Modly Chic to offer to host a visual Friend Friday roundup where people can submit a picture of themselves with no make up. It will be on the 11 November, and I’ll explain properly nearer the time (UPDATE: Here’s the post on how it will work) but I’d LOVE it if lots of you could take part and so I just really wanted to give a heads up that this will be happening.

You look beautiful, with or without makeup! I posted a photo of myself last winter after I'd just removed all my makeup. I was hesitant at first, too, but it really felt rather freeing once I did it. I look forward to hearing more about the roundup you'll be doing.

I love you with no make-up!  I think you look completely beautiful- great skin, lovely eyes, and such a great sneaky smile.  And that dress- so perfectly natural with your natural look.

I'm not particularly attached to or against make-up, either, but I think it's fantastic to wander around with none on sometimes.  Just being able to exempt myself from a daily routine can be fantastic, not to mention the worries about how I look.

Siena is my FAVORITE city. These pictures are so lovely!

And I'm a serious minimalist when it comes to makeup. I never wear face makeup, and only rarely wear eye makeup, with the occasional addition of lippy. 🙂

You look gorgeous! I totally agree, I do wear make up (mascara & lip gloss) almost every day but I don't really mind going out make-up-less every now and then. I love your glasses & sandals combo!

Beautiful photos and you look so pretty in white! I don't think I've ever seen you wear white before. Siena looks awesome! As for makeup – I own a lot for someone who barely has the time to put it on every day – I don't wear it not because I don't want to, just would rather spend ten more minutes in bed in the morning.

You look pretty and glowing with no make up! I look pale and washed out and spotty with little piggy eyes! Maybe I should take part in the no make up thing for an ego boost :S
You are a braver lady than I in a white dress! I always ruin mine with food :'(

I don't think I've ever realized you mostly work makeup?  You look cute both ways, of course and I don't think I even would have noticed if you hadn't said something.  This dress is pretty awesome.

I think you look great! I love your white dress with the red sunnies and shoes. On the weekends I like to have at least one day that I don't bother with makeup. I even go out in public (the horror) and no one seems to notice or care. 🙂
The setting for your photos is amazing!
