I thought I’d give this outfit it’s own post, since it was one of the two dresses I sacrificed suitcase space for. I’m also wearing the cat brooch which was the only ‘thing’ we brought back from holiday. It is by French designer Lea Stein, same as my black and white fox brooch. We got it in this weird little antiques shop in Rome where you had to ring the bell to get in and they had no proper till and had forgotten their tillbox (I don’t think they kept regular opening hours), so they had to run to the book shop next door and get change for me.
Also note the make up less last photo! I mentioned in the other post that I couldn’t wear any make up because I’d tanned and because I was getting all sweaty under my sunglasses. I didn’t feel self conscious about it in the slightest, just silly for lugging my make up bag all the way over there. So anyway, after Dave took it he went ‘You’re probably not gonna want to use this’, and its true that when I first looked at it, I thought ‘no way’ but now I’ve got used to it, I am including it, dishevelled and with rings under my eyes as I look.
Because on reflection, I quite like it. That’s actually what I look like and it’s cool. I am by no means anti make up, and will continue to use it every day, but I don’t like the idea that you have to wear it to look acceptable. I think it’s good practice to not wear it for a bit every now and then actually, and maybe take a picture to get used to the idea. So I’ve got in touch with Katy of Modly Chic to offer to host a visual Friend Friday roundup where people can submit a picture of themselves with no make up. It will be on the 11 November, and I’ll explain properly nearer the time (UPDATE: Here’s the post on how it will work) but I’d LOVE it if lots of you could take part and so I just really wanted to give a heads up that this will be happening.
