Last week, bloggy friend Sandra of madam0wl posted about a top she made out of two bandanas, which was partly inspired by this very top I’m wearing here! Unbelievably, I hadn’t worn this top since September 2007, before I even had the blog! Shocking neglect of such a fab thing! So I dug it out again and here it is.
The scarf top is pretty much the easiest DIY project imaginable, all you need is two identically-sized scarves, a needle and some thread. Handsew three of the edges together right at the edges, leaving a hole in the middle for the head at the top edge and a hole at the top for the arms on the side edges. And that is literally it.
As you can see, my scarves were bigger than Sandra’s, so my top is a little wider and longer, which makes it sit in a slouchier way and therefore really needs a belt to stop me looking whale-like. I might make one with smaller scarves! Or I might try using a different, less slinky, fabric if I can find some nice cotton scarves.
The other thing worthy of note in today’s post is my hair. I’m so happy with it! I was so sick of my long hair, it was in an atrocious state, so I got it chopped. I think it makes me look younger, and I’m not quite decided whether it’s younger in a good way, or younger in a teenager type way. I would be happy to be mistaken for a 25 year old (I’m 30), but maybe not so much an 18 year old, which I think could happen now from far away.
Outfit stats:
* top – I made it
* top under – vero moda
* belt – charity shop
* jeans – h&m. They are getting lots of wear at the moment!
* shoes – clarks originals
* coat – zara
* scarf – I made it

Great idea for the top, I remember it from one of your old posts. And I think your new hair looks gorgeous!

That is absolutely brilliant! I’m totally inspired to make my own as I have a ludicrous amount of scarves.
Your hair looks so pretty like that, it really suits you. x
PS Loved the clutter post, I’m behind with commenting this week. Minimal is so clinical and dull. A home should be filled with eclectic finds to reflect the people who live there, not look like a magazine shoot. I’d love to rummage around your pad, you have fab taste. x

Still love the top! And the hair looks great! I’d say younger in a good way.
I wonder how big your scarves were that you used? I think I might like a slouchier/silkier version myself. These cotton bandanas were 23″ x 23″, although one was an inch or two longer in length, so I just evened them up by working the excess into the armhole area. Tricia had a great idea of sewing two to the bottom, front and back, and making a dress!
Thanks again for the inspiration!

LOVE this outfit, and your new haircut! It looks so fresh! I don’t think it overly youngifies you. I’m going to try this scarf shirt idea, it just looks so chic and funky at the same time.
Tres cute, The top and the hair!
Marie @ Lemondrop ViNtAge I’m having a giveaway…
I really like your hair that length, and I don’t think it makes you look too young – it really suits you.

The short ‘do looks great on you!
Love the scarf top and your new haircut. I definitely would love for people to mistake me for an 18 year old although I am sure that will never happen. I have lots of scarves so may give this DIY a go.

What a super cool idea! Pinning for future reference.
How pretty is your hair Franca, you look lovely!! I wouldn’t ID you if thats what you are worried about, you look great!
I love the idea of a scarf top too, I actually bought a lovely scarf just because I really liked the fabric which I’ve put aside for future use, so maybe I can use it for that.
