If at first you don’t succeed – Plus Mod inspiration

polka dot mini dress

sixties dress

On Saturday night I was going to a dinner and a sixties club night where I’d read lots of people dress up in mod style for. The first photo was my first attempt, except I didn’t wear the skirt. It looked great all short with the boots, but unfortunately with the buttons at the front it was also a bit flashy. It was getting dark by this point and so I just quickly threw on the skirt and went out to take pictures. I think it’s a nice enough outfit, but not very sixties any more!

So I decided to just rip it up and start again with a different sixties dress and a fallback colour combo: primaries. Can’t go wrong! Sorry about the shitty photo quality, I just don’t have a good place inside the flat to take photos. And I really, really need a haircut!

Top outfit: * dress – vintage shop in Berlin * blazer – charity shop * skirt – h&m * boots – some random German department store * brooch – charity shop * bag – gift *

Bottom outfit: * dress – vintage * belt – charity shop * bag – charity shop * bangles – some from the charity shop, some from a cheap import shop * shoes – el naturalista * necklace – gift *

In the end, nobody at the club night was dressed particularly mod-ly. Some people were dressed in a vaguely vintage style, but no one was really going for it fully. So here’s some fun mod inspiration I found instead!

Oh wow, you have just reminded me of a couple of fabulous mod dresses that I haven’t worn for a while (they don’t go well with breast-feeding!) – one is handmade green needlecord with a v-shaped yoke, the other is heavy cream cotton velvet with a turquoise and silver brocade ribbon trim. Ah, must see if they fit!

I love the mod look. A really pretty dress, I love the print. I always like to try and take the opportunity to get dressed up whenever possible.

I think the second dress is a bit more modern. You could always go for a black and white look 🙂

I love your primary colors! I wish others had gone all out and dressed mod too. Thanks for sharing the other images. The 60s geometric styles are fantastic!

I love mod fashion- I did a big paper on it in college. 1960’s is on of my favorite fashion eras. Ah good times!
