I think this post must be a new record in the number of photos I can cram into an outfit post. I do apologise, though I obviously don’t feel bad enough for me to take any out.

This outfit was taken on the day of our 12 year (getting together) anniversary. We had lunch in the restaurant we had our wedding lunch in – the Water of Leith Bistro – and then went for a little walk along the river. This bit with the trees you can see is the bit where we had some of our wedding pictures taken!

The dress I’m wearing here is the one I had been looking for advice on how to wear. This way of styling it is inspired by one of the suggestions and I’ll write about that properly in a separate post. But essentially I discovered that that dress is just too big for me. It’s just so loose at the top and doesn’t fit right. I tried to hold it together with mini safety pins at the back but that didn’t work for very long because they just became undone. I’m in two minds whether to try and rescue the dress by either taking it in or shortening it or whether to just give up and hope that someone slightly larger can make use of it. Anyway, more on that another time.

I’m also not sure I’ve ever shown this hat in all it’s full glory. I’ve talked about it on the blog before (including it’s resemblance or otherwise to Mary Poppins and Paddington bear hats) but the photos were indoors in artificial light so you can’t see it all that well. Well, here it is in proper light! It’s from Fabhatrix, a local hat design shop and it was a present from Dave. I don’t wear it a huge amount because the feathers mean I can’t just scrunch it up and stick it in a bag, but I always love it when I do wear it.

And see that suicidal sausage in the bottom picture? Isn’t it just the creepiest thing? I’ve seen the same thing on a touristy street somewhere (possibly Amsterdam?) so it must have been some advertsing thing. But even if I found hot dogs appealing, this would put me off.

Outfit stats:
Me: * dress – vintage, given to me by a friend * hat – fabhatrix * top under – vero moda * coat – next * shoes – el naturalista * brooches – gift * belt – charity shop * vintage bag – charity shop * necklace – gift *

Dave: * skunkfunk jacket * new Bronx boots * jeans from some high street shop, maybe next?

I love that you went with pink, purple and red, such a you combination. I say lope the dress off to knee or just above knee level and get a massive two or three inch deep leather belt and belt it in round the middle, it’ll keep it’s shape better than a skinny belt. Also, I think with oversized pieces you can get a way with slightly shorter on the leg as the body doesn’t look ‘sexy’, in order to balance it all out.
Oh another idea, turn the left over fabric from shortening it, into an awesome matching obi belt! ;-)

Ah, there are three of those terrifying hot dog figures on the Air Force Base where my parents live. They never get less creepy, and one of them always manages to startle me as I turn a corner and I shreak.

Franca dear, please don’t apologize. I saw a blog today with forty pictures in one outfit post. I’m not exaggerating, I was so shocked that I counted (and I’m rounding down). But anyway, your pictures are adorable and I loved each one. I’m sorry you’re not keen on the dress – I think it’s cute and I love the pattern! The hat, too, is precious. The statue, however, deserves a different word altogether.

That hat is adorable! We never got to explore down Leith when we visited Edinburgh but I really wanted to although that hot dog would scare me haha.

I love the hat and the print on the dress is so pretty, such a shame it doesn’t fit.

The pictures are great, so don’t feel bad about cramming them in an outfit post. And that dress is TOO big! I’ll suggest taking it to a nice seamstress and have it fitted for you. That hat, however, it sheer perfection.
