HEMA

At the weekend, I went on a little excursion to buy the many things I forgot to pack or never had* but suddenly discovered I really needed. As you can see, it was a mixed bag of stuff, so I’d looked up a variety of shops to get everything. But in the end I just needed to go to this one place, HEMA. It’s brilliant! It’s like a department store, it has EVERYTHING you ever need, but just it’s own brand, and it’s just the size of a normal shop. Cheap too – all of this was 30€**! It will be my first stop for all my random household needs in the future.

Please excuse the somewhat pointless and awkwardly placed writing. I discovered how to download fonts, and i really wanted to use them. If I had known I was going to stick text on the images, I would have taken the photos differently, and everything wouldn’t be so squeezed in the corner.

* surprisingly, despite coming from Scotland, I didn’t have a packable umbrella. Edinburgh is too windy, and after the wind ruined three of them, I stopped replacing them.
** it totally just found the euro sign for the first time now. I’m gonna need it I suppose.

    Hi Franca!

Your adventure reminds me when i moved to Gremany in the 80’s
So much fun discovering a new town!
Europe is expensive i think you could have all your items you bought for about 20$ here.

    Hi Franca,

haha, so glad you discovered HEMA! It’s my favorite store 🙂 The card you bought is from the Dutch children’s books “Jip&Janneke” written by Annie MG Schmidt and illustrated by Fiep Westendorp. (The cat is called Siepie.)

Hope you enjoy your stay in Brussels (and your visits to HEMA)!

Fun fact about the euro sign: we Flemish put it in front of the number, while the French speakers put it behind. It’s a crazy country we have indeed. 🙂

Stylish stuff! I have to admit I have no idea where the Euro sign is on my American keyboard layout, or if it’s there at all. I suppose it must be on the German layout that I’m not using…

It must be so strange for you having to buy all of these “new home” items. Glad that this Hema shop has made it easier for you anyway! x
