I little while ago, I was contacted by Nina at the Frayed Hem, a local vintage shop, to ask if I could include them in my guide to Edinburgh vintage and charity shops I published in Spring last year. I didn’t really want to start updating old posts because I’ve got enough on my plate with new ones, and so much has changed with various shops closing down etc, that I may just do a new post at some point.
But I did go round to there to take some pictures and find out what’s what. The Frayed Hem is located on Cockburn Street, a street with little independent knick knack shops just off the Royal Mile and in prime visitor territory. It’s actually quite bad I didn’t know about them, the shops been there for a year already. I guess I’ve not been out exploring much last year, with everything that’s been going!
Anyway, the Frayed Hem is a lovely shop! It’s got a great range of clothes and accessories and knick knacks, including a really great selection of men’s stuff, loads of tweed jackets that are particularly ace. For the girls, there’s loads of dresses, coats and bags. And fur, both real and fake. It’s not all vintage, there’s some second hand high street stuff to, although it’s really well curated so it’s not immediately obvious what’s old and what’s new, it all comes up as a coherent whole.
Overall, definitely worth a visit!
