These are huge paste ups on and around the Cowgate in Edinburgh by artist Joe Caslin. You can see one of the people putting it up for scale in the third picture – they had just finished when we walked past. I took them last time I was back home, which was in April. God, time flies. They are pictures of some local boys, and the project is to challenge the social exclusion of male teenagers band their representation as neds/hoodies/chavs. There’s a bit more about the project here and on the artist’s website, where you can watch a video hearing some of these guys speak.

The photos were taken with the Holga lens, but I couldn’t resist and turned up the contrast a bit.

We need to do something similar in communities all across the states. It’s thought-provoking art.

Wow… it’s interesting to always learn about how other countries are dealing with the same issues we all have. Thanks for sharing.

This is a cool idea. I hate that there seems to be the idea about adolescent boys that they are are violent or something to fear.
