An outfit from when the hot hot hot weather was happening! It was so nice, and completely unusual for me to be able to swan about in bare legs and sandals.

I wore this to go shopping, to go to a free open air jazz festival in the Grand Place (really, there is ALWAYS some public festival or other in Brussels, sometimes several in different places on the same day) and then to a party.

I got loads of attention with this dress. Some of it not so nice, a la ‘hey sexy lady’ and whistles, and some almost polite street harassment, ‘vous etes belle’ – I quite like that it’s vous*, and one guy I’m sure said something like ‘tout sera bien’ which is just confusing (it was definitely aimed at me). Though just in case that wasn’t clear, I am not encouraging such comments, guys should keep their thoughts and stares to themselves. No one needs to know about your oversexed mind.

Anyway, this is not about that, because I also got some attention that was 100% fab: A woman asked to take my picture and asked where I got the dress from! She wasn’t that happy when I said London though. I don’t think she was a blogger, I think it was just for her own information, but I was still super flattering!

The shopping involved the cheapo rubber watch and the earrings. They were both from HEMA, which of course I love. I went in for some headphones, which they don’t have (very disappointing for a shop that has everything), but I’m glad I got this stuff instead, I’ve been looking for a bright yellow watch for ages, particularly since my usual chunky Esprit one is still without a replacement strap and I’m getting a bit sick of the dainty silver one. And it was only 10 euro! I also got a dress and some trousers, I will show them another time.

And yes, my bum! I keep forgetting it’s that big. I’m actually only posting that picture because it’s mostly covered up by the bag.

Outfit stats:
* dress – Spitalfields market * sandals – camper * watch – HEMA * earrings – HEMA *bag – present *

* This is a thing that baffles me in French romantic films. It is SO common for the main characters to say ‘je vous aime’ to each other. So you haven’t got it together enough to call the other tu but you can tell them you love them. I find that very strange!

I do share your love for HEMA. It’s so funny that this typical Dutch store went abroad. And it is weird they don’t sell headphones in the Belgian stores. The do in the Netherlands. The quality isn’t fab, but I bought some red polkadotted ones. Those would suit your dress perfectly. 🙂 I blogged about them shortly: http://superheidiz.blogspot.nl/2012/03/polkadot-dj.html
    Can’t you get them online?

Oh I got some in fnac straight away – I was just surprised hema didn’t have them! I like your polka dot ones though I was looking for small in the ear ones anyway!

They have, but I don’t know how to get there in the French version of the website.

A few weeks ago I witnessed a woman going berserk because the man behind the bar helping her adressed her with ‘tu’ instead of ‘vous’. 🙂 I love the dress, definitely something I would wear!

It really is a great dress. I hate when guys shout out on the street. Here they do it when they are right beside or behind you. I hate it! If you are going to say anything, at least say it to my face because hell if I’m going to turn around and acknowledge them.

Yep, it’s great dress/great on you.

I always find that I get good response when I wear a lot of color or something outside the norm. I think most people are starved for color and they just can’t figure out how to wear it themselves, or feel like they couldn’t pull it off.

Love the dress and the toe nail polish, looks fabulously red and shiny. I’m a Hema fan too, have only been in stores in Amsterdam though…

Yeah for capturing attention. I found myself wondering as I read if you find this behavior different in the various places you have lived. I experience less of it nowadays in the American midwest, but that could just be because I’m getting older.

The dress looks marvelous on you Franca, no wonder you got so much attention.
Some people do not know how to deal with their emotions and say things that let`s say “mean well” but upon said, do not sound that well. For example I had an aunt tell me that once in a market she had a guy said to her that she was so pretty he would pee for her. Yeah, classy, no ?
BTW i love the bag !
