This is from the beginning of July and my last trip back to Edinburgh for my firen’s 30th birthday party. Her surname’s White, so she had a white themed party, with white food and a white dress code. Which to be honest, no one really paid much attention to., most girls either just had a tiny white accessory or a little bit of white in a print, while most guys didn’t bother at all.
Dave and I went for it though. He wore his cricket whites and his cycling jacket, while I recycled a load of wedding stuff. Those are my wedding shoes, shawl and earrings, just the dress is different and the hair a lot more casual!
The dress is new to me though. It was given to me by my uncles mum, who had held onto many old things, much to her son’s chagrin, but is willing to let them go now she’s found out we love old things and will use them. She gave me a suit from the forties, a dress form the 50s and one from the 80s, and this 60s dress.
Initially, I just tried things on to humour her, because I never expected anything to fit, since she’s both shorter and skinnier than me, but miraculously it did! The skirt of the suit is dangerously tight, but apart from that, everything’s great. This dress was the biggest thing, and the way it’s cut wuth a very high waist is quite accommodating of bumpage. In fact, I don’t look pregnant at all really! It’s also quite large around the boobs, and there’s some weird sticking out going on with the darts, so I think once I’m back in a stable body shape, I’ll have it altered to fit me. But for now it was just fine.
