New York recommendations, anyone?

manhattan bridge

We will be going to New York at the beginning of September for our wedding anniversary. We went 4 years ago, and did most of the standard touristy things then, so this time we will take it easy (we’ll have to anyway, I walk at a snails pace now!). So I’m looking for recommendations of fun things to do and places to eat and drink. Things to do with contemporary art, design, craft, architecture, vintage shopping, that kind of thing. Restaurants should be vegetarian friendly (don’t have to be properly veggie, Dave eats meat). We’ll be there for 9 days and will be staying in our friend’s apartment in Brooklyn (Fort Greene?).

Thanks in advance guys!

In other news, I’ve got a new phone and have finally got instagram. I’m apple_franca – shockingly, both oranges_and_apples and orangesandapples were already gone (though the latter is empty).

You will be staying really close to my neighborhood, so I have some suggestions. Ice cream at Marble Hill Creamery, doughnuts at Dough, Mexican food in Bushwick, dumplings in Brooklyn’s Chinatown, Brooklyn flea and Fulton St. Market, Brooklyn Heights Promenade, Cloisters (the list goes on and on). NYC’s bike share program will be up and running by then. So if you’re feeling adventurous, consider renting bikes and then riding down to Coney Island. Rockaway Beach is one of my favorite places in the city, and it’s not hard to get to from Ft. Greene via the C train (than transfer to a Far Rockaway bound A train).
Nine days isn’t a long time but if you have a free moment, I’d love to meet you for an hour or two!

I’d love to go to Montreal! We had actually planned an East coast trip which included Montreal two years ago, but then Dave lost his job so we couldn’t afford it. I still plan to go one day though!

I’m not really planning on doing too much thrifting, since I can’t try anything on! But I’ll probably go to Beacon’s Closet, I loved it when we went four years ago.

New York, wie toll!

Oh how exciting! We’re thinking of going to New York as part of our honeymoon. I’ve been twice before, but I was younger and with my parents so I don’t really have any recommendations. Ellis Island is really interesting, but if you’re avoiding touristy things I suppose it’s not that great! Have a fab time anyhow. (also can’t believe it’s nearly a year since you got married!)
