Log cabin baby blanket

My first bit of knitting for Captain Nemo! It’s not really a pattern, it’s made up free style using the log cabin technique, but I got the idea from here. I realise the colours are very ‘boy-ey’ but actually I bought the yarns ages ago, before we knew the gender. I just got the two blues, red and white, which was largely determined by what they had in stock of that yarn Rowan Pure Wool Arran) in John Lewis, but then found that I had another skein of the same yarn in brown in my stash that I bought in some sale ages ago, so it seemed silly not to include it. I love the way it’s turned out, and it’s a big size (maybe even too big?).

I really enjoyed making it, being all garter stitch it’s the perfect thing to make without really paying attention, which is just as well because we’ve finally got a hold of ‘the killing’ via lovefilm and that demands constant focus with the subtitles. But there’s enough interest with the changing colours to not get bored. Some of the larger blocks near the edge did get a bit tedious, and the whole thing took ages because my hand/wrist is still gammy, so I have to limit my knitting. From now on, I’m making small things!

If you’re on ravelry, I’m orangesandapples.
