It was my birthday last Friday. Dave was on a half day, we went for lunch and it was in athe middle of the lovely run of sunny days so we had planned to go to the botanics after, though then the sun failed to materialise (it did eventually come out at 4), so we walked to the modern art gallery instead.
I had really wanted to see that exhibition, some famous collector has lent them loads of stuff and they’ve put it with related things from their own collection. I did not realise that the theme of the exhibition was something to do with the body, which basically meant loads and loads of things to do with genitals. I’ve nothing against willies or fannies or indeed the muscles that pull up the testes (a whole room of video art inspired by the cremaster muscle. Yup. Though actually you wouldn’t have known if it hadn’t been for the signage), but it was pretty full on and just not hugely interesting. Though there were a few things I did like. One room was dedicated to these big tubelike nets filled with spices. I’m not sure what the significance was, but it was a great atmosphere with all the smells, and I liked it. They also had some Francesca Woodman photographs, which are tiny in real life. I’m sure I’d seen them before but I’d forgotten.
Anywhoo, then we went home and had cake! Which is as it should be on a birthday!
Oh and in outft news, I am wearing my newly thrifted Reiss jacket and the brooch was my birthday present from Dave. It’s a Lea Stein one, so I now have a collection three!
