August break: Father and son in the Highlands (giveaway now CLOSED)

the road to skye 9
the road to skye 7

Giveaways are like buses, there’s none for ages and then two come along at one. So as well as the little dress kits giveaway, which closes in five days, I’m giving away a £40 Amazon voucher courtesy of the lovely people at ao.com, who have randomly decided to shower the world with little bits of versatile online money. Who am I to refuse?

To enter, please leave a comment telling me something interesting. What you’d spend it on, what your dream holiday destination is, what you wanted to be as a child. You know, something, anything.

Extra entry if you tweet or share the giveaway on facebook. Please leave an additional comment showing me you have done so.

This giveaway is open internationally, I always get so annoyed at all those US-only giveaways, so I really shouldn’t be restricting it to the UK only. For those outside the UK, the voucher amount will be approximately translated into the currency that their local amazon operates in.

I’ll draw a winner via random number on the 17 August.

When I was little I wanted to be an astronaut (no really!) my ambition was to be the first woman to land on Mars.

    • Sarah 15 August 2013, 12:08 pm

PS I would spend the voucher on the new Star Trek DVD so I can vicariously live my dream of travelling in space

  • Julia 2 August 2013, 9:27 am

I spent most of my life not wanting to be like my mom, until I had kids. Now i would love to be more like her! As for the money, an ice cream maker would be nice, considering the heat…

  • Kerry 2 August 2013, 11:09 am

Thanks for the giveaway Franca. If I won I’d spend it on something nice for me, maybe some shoes or Burts Bees products.

When I was young (14/15) I wanted to work as a medical examiner (hope I spelled that right :-x)… But I ended up being a nurse instead. Maybe in my next life 🙂

What else… I used to wear only black, now I only wear colors. I wonder if I will ever go back to just wearing black 🙂 (the dressing in the morning was a lot easier!)

I would spend the money on a diary… Mine is almost full, and this time I would love a really pretty one.

For Career Day when I was maybe in 3rd grade (8 years old), I dragged my father’s heavy Smith-Corona typewritter to school, so I could be a “writer.” I wanted to be some famous literary author, or a popular children’s book writer. But instead I write rather dry and not so appealing academic stuff.
If I got this voucher, I would spend it on fancy cloth diapers- pocket diapers specifically, for when Leon and I go out/travel.

  • Rhianne 2 August 2013, 2:51 pm

Hehe they are like buses 🙂 I like it. I loved your other giveaway but I didn’t really need it, this one however, I am all over!

Unsurprisingly I would buy film and I would want it to take to Croatia in September, we’re going to Split and there’s a Roman palace there which has 3000 year old Egyptian Sphinx’s, ancient pavements and underground ruins which I find really fascinating, I can’t wait!

I would spend it on a proper nice wicker basket for my bike. I want to cycle more but still haven’t got over failing cycling proficiency aged 11. I think if I had a basket that I could put a bun in from the bakers it would spur on donkey/carrot style.

I always thought the “Bakerloo” was a weird name for a tube line. But it’s because originally it was called the Baker Street and Waterloo line.
I think that’s interesting. Whether anyone else does…
I might spend it more books about the history of the tube, to further my own geekiness.

I have spent the weekend teaching myself to spin yarn. It’s fun, and now I’m looking at the commercial yarn I’m knitting with a little differently, just like I look at commercial clothes differently now I knit and sew.

And if I won I’d spend the voucher on even more books for my kindle – I love being able to carry my whole library around with me!

…I wanted to be a lawyer when I was a child (Strange child)
I’d buy lots and lots of books 🙂

  • Sarah Davies 6 August 2013, 2:01 pm

I’d love to go to China, walk along a bit of the great wall and see the Terracotta Army.

I’d put the vouchers towards some new software I need for my business.

    Thanks for running the competition.

  • Zoe 7 August 2013, 7:26 am

When I was little I wanted to be a lawyer, until I got accepted onto a law course and got scared. I’m now a teacher!

How nice is it to open your giveaway internationally. My fav holiday destination is Aberdeen as i was brought up in Dyce and regularly go back on holiday there. We moved down to liverpool when i was ten years old and i always remember as a child the long journey up to Aberdeen and to keep us occupied my lovely mum would sing ”you take the high road, and i will take the low road and i’ll be in scotland before you,for me and my true love ………..The memories of being a child in scotland were wonderful.

  • Hele R 12 August 2013, 8:44 pm

I am teaching myself to knit. I’d love to spend the voucher on more time so I could spend longer with my knitting instead of just doing a couple of rows every few days and then forgetting and making mistakes. Even though amazon sell everything, I’m pretty sure they don’t sell time so I’d probably buy loads of books for my son who turns 2 in 2 days. He loves reading books and I’m a sucker for spending ages looking at books with him.

When I was young I wanted to be an author; when I grew up I settled for being a Librarian, which turned out to be a pretty good career choice.

Yesterday I learned about Proprioception from an Occupational Therapist ” The unconscious perception of movement and spatial orientation arising from stimuli within the body itself.” which I found pretty interesting. I’d never heard of it before but it turns out some people have reduced Proprioception and this causes them to unconsciously fidget and wriggle a lot so that they can gather information about where they are in space. If you know any foot tappers, finger drummers, or clothes nibblers they might have reduced Proprioception.

If I won I’m not sure what I would spend the voucher on. I’d be torn between treating myself (we’re a 1 income family at the moment so we don’t treat ourselves very often!), or putting it towards something practical needed for the family.

Meant to add that I’ve also shared on Facebook.

I just visited the highlands with my husband last weekend and am still swooning. Great giveaway – I can think of a million things I’d spend it on. Having just got married last year though I’m feeling like I should be a whole lot more domestic than I actually am so I’d probably spend it on some pretty cookbooks 🙂

  • Jo 14 August 2013, 12:37 pm

    Happy Wednesday
I’m moving to the highlands!!!!!! Been saving up like mad for 5 years and nearly have enough for our own little bit of paradise (ideally with a habitable building on it but that might be a stretch).
On another note my boyfriend wanted to be a light bulb changer when he was a lad 🙂

  • Maven 14 August 2013, 6:17 pm

I tried to comment on this when you first posted, but the internet ate it. My “interesting thing” is that this post initially came up right under another post about the Highlands (with gorgeous pictures of same) in my feed reader–do you read Needled? They’re moving house, to a place near/on the West Highland Way (http://katedaviesdesigns.com/2013/08/02/looking-forward/). It’s a terrific blog and I’m not even much of a knitter–lots of stuff about textile history, Scotland, stroke recovery, camping, walking, and knitting, of course. Highly recommended.
