We’ve lived in our new flat for 8 months now, and I’ve only just got round to taking some pictures! The flay was in great condition when we bought it, so no DIY was really done, we just painted a couple of rooms and moved in our stuff and that was it. The kitchen was one of the rooms we left completely as it was. It’s actually fairly similar to the kitchen in our old flat (which you can see here), well, same slate floor tiles and fairly plain wooden cupboards with black marble effect workstops. It’s slightly smaller (though still big) and has stuff on only one side, so it required a bit of rejiggering to fit everything in, but that was about it.

Not having that alcove also showcases our kitchen table and chairs! I don’t think I ever showed the table on the blog before. It’s our old scratched wooden one (which we took away from the rented flat we first shared, they threw everything out when we moved out), repainted. Dave did it in the month he had off after Milo was born, doesn’t it look great? It’s one tin of green paint, progressively diluted down.

The Eames repro chairs were one of our two new purchases when we moved. There’s four of them, but one is in Milo’s current bedroom/dining room/sewing room while we have the high chair out. The pictures are prints we got at the bauhaus archive when we first went to Berlin (2002?). The one on the left is the bauhaus seen from underneath. They were hanging in our hall before we moved.

Oh, and I did do a tiny little bit of cheating: That space under the window usually has our recyling boxes in it, but they were too ugly to show!

We’ve lived in our current flat for more than a year and are nowhere near having things look so good! V. jealous and inspired.

I’m actually not 100% sold on it, it is an efficient use of space, but being a shorarse i can’t actually reach all the way into the corner.

They are super high! We had high ones in the old flat, so had just kind of assumed it was the same, but it’s almost an extra metre!

Absolutely lovely, so airy and spacious with well-chosen pieces. It should be in an interiors mag! x

What a beautiful kitchen! I’d want to sit there all the time, sipping a hot drink and starring out the window (with Milo, of course).

I absolutely adore your kitchen, and (odd as this may sound), I know that my husband would, too, which makes me love it all the more (though we always compromise and agree in the end, our design tastes are fairly different, but I know there are elements at work here that would please us both to no end). It’s really cool how you have a stack of different coloured mugs that coordination with the lips of various hues on that classic Harper’s cover.

OMG that table is just perfection! I want to paint ours because I ruined it with the iron :/. The only thing preventing me from doing it is the fact that our chairs are really dark (wooden); David thinks we should paint them, too, but I’m not sure it’s a good idea.

    Lovely home!
