Well, not really! But we did go to the queen’s garden party at holyrood palace. No exciting and meaningful reason (my colleague’s dad got knighted for services to brewing, how cool is that?), they just reserve a number of tickets for the Scottish Government and you can put your name down for it. You can only go once in your life though! We picked a good year, the weather was PERFECT. So sunny and warm (seriously this weather is freaking me out. The previous two years were so awful, I can’t quite believe summer is actually happening), I did feel a bit sorry for the men in dress uniforms, but for the ladeeez it was perfect. Also: the food! Oh man, so so good! My favourite were these passion fruit tarts, they should start selling them, they’d make a fortune! I also had iced coffee, pear juice (is this a royal thing?), cucumber and mint sandwiches, lemon and raspberry victoria sponge, apricot and lavender sponge, raspberry tart and chocolate mousse cake with crunchy hazelnut bits. Om nom nom! We didn’t try to get near the royals, so we just saw them from v far away. Queenie is very tiny and had a cool jaunty top hat (Dave’s phrase) on. Instead we just wandered around and explored the beautiful gardens!
