What I Wore: So Zo Dolores tunic

This is really just a basic jersey top and jeans outfit, BUT it includes the thing I made at the blogger sewing day! It’s another So Zo Dolores, this time with long sleeves and in the tunic length. I went down a size for the neckline and that worked well. The fabric I used is bamboo spandex from Edinburgh Fabrics, I love that stuff. It’s not cheap but I have a bit of an obsession with bamboo, it just feels so nice. If I hadn’t faffed about so much on the day, my second project would have been using the same fabric.

I initially thought I’d improved my knit fabric skills a bit, the stitching along the side seams and collar is much improved on my first attempt, and the sleeve hems (?) look pretty tidy too. But then I did the bottom hem and it is not good. For reasons unknown I decided to roll it under twice, which means not only is it slightly shorter than it should be (although that’s only really a problem while I’m using it as a maternity top), it also made it harder to hem. Combined with me not really knowing what I’m doing, the hem has ended up a complete mess. There are two places where the needle slipped and the stitching is actually a curve, I should have taken a picture it’s ridiculous. I should probably undo it and start again, but I couldn’t be bothered then and I’m not sure I can be bothered now. We’ll see, I guess, for now I’m wearing it.

It’s still a usable top, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be making another one, although I’m not quite ready to cut into the liberty fabric yet!

Outfit stats:
* top – me made * jeans – off gumtree * shoes – camper * scarf – I made it (see here) * brooch – leah stein *

    Looks great! I’m not sure about batwing style things on me, but this – and some other things – is making me think I should just try one on to see if it is a complete disaster.

    If the bottom hem is really bothering you, you could try unpicking and leaving it raw/unhemmed. Not sure if I am a bad sewer for suggesting that, but honestly no-one will notice!

    Btw, I had an email from you circulated to me at work the other day #smallworld #spooky

      I meant to email you about this, what was it? I am intrigued. I don’t have much contact with the ‘outside world’ at work!

      I think I’ll just leave the hem as it is, and write this off as a practice piece. Good enough for me anyway!
