As I mentioned, Milo went stabiliser free on his bike recently and took to it like a fish to water so we took advantage of the Tour of Britain starting in edinburgh this year and the associated City Bike Ride, a week 5k loop of closed roads designed for families. We got a bike seat off my boss, so now we can all go out together. The Tour proper started on the Royal Mile this year (last year it was Holyrood Park), which was kind of an odd choice, all the tourists on their ghost tours were a bit confused, and there were team cars parked everywhere, so even the bridges didn’t really function even for buses, but it was fun to see the pros in that environment. We saw Tony Martin and Dave also saw Mark Cavendish while Milo and I were watching people having their picture taken with a mystery Irish rider (someone told me his name, but I’d never heard it before).
We only saw the riders actually cycle just for the warm up before the actual start, and they were crazy fast even then. Milo kept asking if we were going to follow the professionals on our bikes, it was quite sweet. Like a mere mortal would have a chance of keeping up in anything without a motor!
We went round the course twice, I thought Milo might struggle but actually 5k on an almost flat course is nothing even for a 4 year old. Because it was set up for families there was always lots of space, no one trying to race it. We only stopped because Ellis fell asleep in the seat and started flopping against me which obviously isn’t the best feeling particularly when that was actually the first time I’d ridden with him in the back!
That week I basically failed to take any decent individual pictures of the boys for project 52 so these are them
