We are at my parents at the moment and were at the Christmas market in Trier yesterday. Christmas markets are not such a rarety any more now that most UK cities have one, but they seem to all by run by Underbelly and hence identical. The one in Trier seems different, with more actually artisanal things, though maybe that’s not actually the case and all the other German ones are the same. But they’re different for us!
But that’s not the reason we HAVE to go every time we are in Luxembourg for Christmas. That is because tthat Christmas market has Damnpfnudeln. Dave is obsessed. If you’re a Bake Off viewer, you might remember these sweet steamed yeast dough dumplings from the latest series. But they didn’t make them right on the show – these are bigger, filled with cherries (or plums, in which case theyre called Germknoedel), and served with fruit as well as vanilla sauce. They are very nice, although not objectively as amazing as Dave thinks, but its the scarcity that makes them special!
We also got some gemstones cut open for the boys this time. You can select a closed, muddy looking stone and they will cut it in half, revealing the gemstoniness inside and sometimes also a little crystally cavity. My sister and I used to get one every year when we were little.
My sister is documenting December for as scrapbooking project, so is also carrying her camera around and there was some camera-ey face off pictures
And these are this month’s Project 52 pictures – I think my timings are a little messed up as I have four weeks of the 52 left but there are not four weeks of 2017 left! I think I must have stuffed it up that time in the summer when I was taking them (or so I thought!) but not posting them. Ah well, gonna either take lots to make up or just leave it at fewer than 52, we shall see.
If you made it all this way, this is me signing off for Christmas and possibly the New Year! Have a good one everyone and thank you for still visiting this little here corner of the internet!
